December Membership Happenings -

A Message from Bill Garlette

G’day Everyone – I’m happy to report that the Membership and Program Committee is finally an actual committee with many Grainger enthusiasts and experts at the ready. We have many endeavors to pursue, but we’re starting out sensibly with just a few.

Dana Paul Perna, a long time Society member, Recording Secretary Emeritus, and Grainger expert, has begun a project he has long wanted to explore – Oral Histories. He is contacting the longstanding members who are at the foundation of the original Society. Folks like President Emeritus Rolf Stang, President Emeritus Barry Peter Ould, and former board members and Grainger expert Keith Brion, to name just a few. The goal? Glean their insights into the Society from its founding to the present.

Another very important endeavor is being investigated by Jennifer Martin. One of the greatest hurdles in any Grainger research is locating references and materials. So many Grainger documents and files are scattered throughout the world. Jenn’s daunting task is to identify both the location and a list of what is out there and where (follow this link to view her work on the Grainger website). Many remarkable scholars have collected much of this information but there is still work to be done.

Most importantly, we seek to both inform and attract new members to the Society. Folks in all the various genres that were Grainger endeavors are not aware of our renewed organization and all the offerings we have now. We need your help. We need to identify the many publications, journals, and organizations that would be potentially interested in what we have to offer. In addition to letting your colleagues and students know of the Society, could you please drop us a line letting us know who and where we can contact folks to spread the word of the amazing genius and legacy of Percy Grainger.

Here's wishing everyone a safe and happy holiday.

Yours in the Democracy of Music,

Bill Garlette
