We are especially thankful during the holidays for the living history of the Percy Grainger Home & Studio in White Plains, New York. Percy and Ella Grainger collected and meticulously packaged hundreds of holiday greeting cards that they received over the years. Stored in their White Plains residence, the cards offer a peek into the season from the perspective of the Graingers. Click the image above to view this year’s samples from the card collection.
This holiday season, please consider making a gift to help preserve the Percy Grainger Home & Studio and its archives and collections. Your generosity supports the mission of celebrating Percy Grainger’s life, work, and legacy. We are grateful for your support and wish you a happy and healthy holiday season!

Membership HappeningsBarry Ould Visits Troldhaugen
PGS received exciting news from Percy Grainger Society's President Emeritus Barry Ould. He embarked on a much-anticipated trip to Norway and Denmark, arriving in Bergen on October 31st.
This journey was a remarkable experience as Barry was able to visit the renowned Edvard Grieg house, Troldhaugen. The trip held special significance, as it allowed Bary to tour the Grieg home and explore the very hut where Percy Grainger composed his poignant Kipling setting of "Soldier, Soldier."
This connection to Grainger’s creative process was a thrilling opportunity for Barry, both as a personal reflection and a deeper appreciation of Grieg's work. The visit not only honors Grieg's and Grainger's legacy, but also celebrates the rich musical heritage of Norway. We look forward to updates and reflections from this inspiring pilgrimage to the heart of Grainger's musical influences.

The Percy Grainger Society (PGS) is pleased to announce that it has been awarded $20,000 in grant funding for 2025 from the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA). New York’s Governor Kathy Hochul shared, “As the unparalleled leader of arts and culture, New York’s creativity and innovation inspire the world.” Erika Mallin, Executive Director of NYSCA, added, “The continued support from the Governor and Legislature is a testament to their dedication to the importance of our sector…On behalf of the Council, we congratulate and thank all the grantees. Their work will continue to ensure our state’s influence as the artistic capital of the world.”
The 2025 NYSCA grant award will allow PGS to continue building upon its initiatives focused on enhancing accessibility for all audiences. In 2024, PGS secured expert consultation for these initiatives from Professor Andrew Hugill, a long-time PGS member and expert in musicology and creative technology. Professor Hugill has been reviewing the GLOSS (Grainger Library of Sampled Sounds) website for improved usability and accessibility, providing recommendations for the website in compliance with WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines). The next phase of accessibility initiatives includes new instructional materials and the addition of an interface and music composition tool on the GLOSS platform. Read more about the GLOSS accessibility initiative here.

Save the DateLast Day for Gift Matching: December 31, 2024
There are just a few weeks left in the calendar year to have your gift of support matched and multiply the mission of the Percy Grainger Society! Now through December 31, every contribution, no matter the size will help the society continue to:
- Support membership programming and activities, and the publication and distribution of The Grainger Journal.
- Bring history to life for visitors (virtual and in-person) and allow for public programs in the arts and humanities (such as our Spring Open House each year in April, complete with a concert and house tours).
- Support ongoing repair and restoration of the Percy Grainger Home and Studio, and contribute to our efforts to care for and document the collection.
In addition to supporting the mission, every contribution (up to $7500) made by December 31 will be matched! Your help allows us to provide services, take risks, and complete programs not otherwise possible. Once doubled, donations provide much needed support that the Society can apply to needs, projects, and programs. Learn more about how you can help here.
