Each year, the Percy Grainger Society joins in the global #GivingTuesday movement designed to keep the spirit of giving alive during the holiday season.

Again this year, your gift will be matched, and that’s just the start!

Our Mission Continues

For over 60 years, the Percy Grainger Society has highlighted Grainger’s achievements in the world of music and the arts. These are unprecedented times, but the Society's commitment to preserving the Grainger legacy is unwavering. Your contribution, no matter the size, will help the society continue to:

  • Support membership programming, activities, and the publication and distribution of The Grainger Journal.
  • Bring history to life for visitors (virtual and in-person) and allow for public programs in the arts and humanities (such as our Spring Open House each year in April, complete with a concert and house tours).
  • Support ongoing repair and restoration of the Percy Grainger Home and Studio and contribute to our efforts to care for and document the collection.

I discovered the Percy Grainger Home & Studio (PGH&S) while preparing for an all-Grainger concert with the Westchester Symphonic Winds (WSW) in 2021. We were celebrating two Grainger milestones that year: the 100th anniversary of Grainger’s arrival in the U.S., and the 60th anniversary of his passing. The connections were vast between the ensemble and PGH&S, and as a new resident to the area, I was elated to discover that Percy Grainger was, literally, our neighbor! After performing Grainger’s wind band music for so many years, I simply could not understand how I never knew he lived in New York State for four decades — and that I could actually visit his home!

Visiting the PGH&S is an experience that is difficult to describe in words. A completely immersive example of living history, the PGH&S is Grainger’s home. When you walk through the house, you are following his steps. The house is exactly as he left it, and every item, from the manuscripts and letters to the corner of his tools in the butler’s pantry, are his! As you continue through the house, Percy’s world comes to life. You have a hands-on view of his life and work in the greatest detail, and there is always something new to discover. Most remarkably, you sense that he just stepped out and will be coming back through the door to meet you. This is the feeling you experience at the Percy Grainger Home & Studio.
