Volunteer Spotlight Take Your Group on a Tour

Planning to travel to New York with a group? Consider adding a tour of the Percy Grainger Home & Studio to your itinerary! A visit to the Home & Studio at 7 Cromwell Place in White Plains, Grainger's residence for forty years, provides the opportunity to envision Grainger's life as you walk through his home.
Several groups of musicians have toured the home this fall, including our most recent visitors from the Manhattan Wind Ensemble (MWE), pictured above. Our Museum Coordinator, Anne Ocone, led the MWE members' tour, noting, "I always enjoy taking musicians through the house -- they bring a musician's perspective, are familiar with Grainger's work, and ask terrific questions!"

Membership Happenings Grainger Reimagined: Arrangement

We are grateful to Percy Grainger Society board member Professor Chalon Ragsdale for the first presentation in our Grainger Reimagined series. Here is a summary of the presentation.
Prof. Ragsdale's slide deck is here. Members may sign in and view the entire presentation here. Among the many interesting music examples included was Prof. Ragsdale's percussion arrangement of Grainger's Shepherd's Hey for 8 Players on 5 Marimbas, 2 Vibraphones, Xylophone, and Orchestra Bells. It was performed by the University of Arkansas Percussion Ensemble and may be be viewed with the presentation. |

We invite you to join us on November 19 from 2 pm - 4 pm for the next Third Sundays tour of the Grainger Home at Studio. Come view our new exhibit! Meet the curators! Discover how the Percy Grainger Home and Studio functioned as a creative workshop!
The exhibition, Tone, Rhythm, Pitch: Exploring Percy Grainger’s Free Music, introduces Grainger’s work in Free Music and demonstrates, through objects, images and text, how the White Plains home was an active creative work space.
After a short overview, visitors will be free to view the exhibition at their own pace and tour the first floor of the historic home. The curators, Anne Ocone and Stewart Lee, will be available to answer questions and elaborate on how the exhibit developed.
The event is free and open to the public. Due to space limitations, registration is encouraged. |
