Membership HappeningsRecapping the July 2025 Members' Meeting
|
|
PGS President, Dr. Paul Jackson, lead an engaging review of the past year’s programs, events, and initiatives at the 2025 Annual Members Meeting on July 19th. Included in the discussion were the three Sanctuary, Shelter, Stage events exploring the Percy Grainger Home & Studio in White Plains and a review of the exciting temporary art installation at the house this past spring, Restless Corners.
Dr. Jackson also updated participants on organizational initiatives, including progress on the strategic plan and fundraising totals from grants, membership, and the annual Giving Tuesday campaign.
As is customary during the annual meeting, the upcoming year’s new programmatic theme was announced: Grainger the Educator. PGS is pleased to have three events scheduled focusing on the theme (see “Feature of Note” section above for more information), accessible to all via Zoom. Additionally, Dr. Jackson shared updates on PGS's current educational collaborations: the Grainger Symposium hosted by Brigham Young University (BYU) and a revamping of the GLOSS website with the assistance of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI). Additionally, the upcoming The Grainger Journal (Volume 21, Number 1) will also focus on the theme of Grainger as an educator. Past editions of the journal are available through this link to the PGS website. We hope you will join us for the exciting 2025–26 programming!

This April, the Percy Grainger Home and Studio was alive with motion, video, and music as visitors explored Restless Corners, a temporary installation by artist Joel Sherry. Inspired by the Graingers' lives and the historic house itself, Sherry collaborated with performance artists Cynthia Bueschel Svigals and Michelle Kelly Wurf to create site-specific videos that were embedded into 10 sculptural video works placed throughout the house.
To document the exhibition, the artist created a short video walk-through offering a brief look at each of the 10 pieces in the installation. The video, approximately 7 minutes long, is now available here. For additional details and photos from the installation, follow this link to view our latest blogpost on the PGS website.

With gratitude and kind remembrance, the Percy Grainger Society pays tribute to John Bird (1941–2025), the esteemed writer and biographer whose seminal book, Percy Grainger, first appeared in 1976 with Elek Books (Paul Elek, London), was republished by Faber in 1982, and saw a significantly revised third edition with Oxford University Press in 1999. Through his meticulous scholarship, Bird’s work profoundly enriched our collective understanding of Grainger’s life, legacy, and creative genius. Tribute is here.
Cadbury Research Library: Special Collections, University of Birmingham, The Percy Grainger collection, compiled by John Bird, MS865 is available here.
