Expanding Our Reach and Impact: A Message from President Paul Jackson

Ways to Engage with the PGS

Dear Members of the Percy Grainger Society,

Happy New Year! I hope this letter finds you in good health and high spirits as we embark on another exciting year together. As we bid farewell to the challenges and triumphs of the past year, I would like to take a moment to reflect on our accomplishments, and to express my gratitude for your support.

I am thrilled to announce that we have successfully reached our Giving Tuesday goal for the year 2023, raising over $15,000. Your generous contributions and dedication to preserving the legacy of Percy Grainger have made this achievement possible, and we are immensely grateful for your continued support.

As we enter the new year, I would like to encourage each and every one of you to get more involved in the Percy Grainger Society. There are numerous opportunities for you to contribute your time, skills, and ideas to further our mission. Volunteering for a committee is an excellent way to actively participate in the decision-making process and to help shape the future of our society. Whether you have a passion for event planning, fundraising, or membership engagement, we have a committee that will benefit from your expertise.

Additionally, we have several exciting projects on the horizon that require the assistance of dedicated volunteers like yourself. From organizing events, to designing educational programs, your involvement in these projects will help us expand our reach and impact. If you have a specific area of interest or expertise, please let us know, and we will find a project that aligns with your passion.

Furthermore, your ideas and suggestions are invaluable to us. We believe in the power of collective wisdom and the strength of our membership. I encourage you to share your thoughts and ideas at our Membership and Programs Committee meetings. Your input will help shape our future initiatives and ensure that we continue to provide meaningful experiences for our members.

In conclusion, I want to express my heartfelt appreciation for your unwavering support and dedication to the Percy Grainger Society. Together, we have achieved great things, and I am confident that the coming year will bring even more success and fulfillment. Let us continue to celebrate the life and work of Percy Grainger, and inspire future generations to appreciate his contributions to the world of music.

Wishing you a joyous and prosperous New Year!

Warm regards,

Paul Jackson

February 22, 2024:
Reimagining Grainger Through Performance

Giving Tuesday

Grainger Reimagined is a three-part series of online presentations exploring the ways in which Grainger’s outputs as composer, arranger, and performer have been recast in the contemporary moment.

The second presentation in the series, "Reimagining Grainger Through Performance," will be given by noted jazz guitarist and composer James Chirillo on Thursday, February 22 at 4:00 pm EST via Zoom. Of this presentation, Chirillo writes:

In this presentation I will introduce my Grainger Suite, which was commissioned by the US Military Academy Jazz Knights at West Point. I will speak to what was involved in integrating and translating Grainger’s Sussex Mummers’ Christmas Carol and Hill Song No. 2 to allow for improvisation in a jazz context.
