This month, we wish a belated happy birthday to PGS board member Marissa Kyser! A native of Troy, Missouri, Marissa studied Music Education and Wind Band Conducting at Missouri State University. Her thesis about Percy Grainger's time living in Springfield, Missouri during the 1940s is featured in the PGS blog. Marissa wrote:
As a man who obsessed over the meticulous documentation of his life, it is strange that little is known about Percy Grainger during the time he spent living in Springfield, Missouri. Though it is acknowledged that the world-famous composer moved to this area around the time of World War II, there is a lack of compiled evidence that details his whereabouts and residence. Many researchers have contributed to understanding Grainger’s life in New York, Europe, and Australia, but most fail to describe this brief period of his life in Springfield, let alone recognize that he lived there at all.
Percy and Ella Grainger moved to Springfield, Missouri in November 1940 and returned to their home in White Plains, New York in October 1943. Follow this link to read Marissa's full post on our website. |

March 19: Grainger the Educator Second Meeting
The Percy Grainger Society’s 2025–26 members’ meeting series, Grainger the Educator, continues on March 19 at 4:00 PM EST with an exciting discussion of new developments in the GLOSS (Grainger Library of Sampled Sounds) project. You won't want to miss this virtual meeting (via Zoom) introducing the GLOSS project's new name and website, GlossGlide!
GlossGlide is an exploratory sound project inspired by the ideas, materials, and creative ethos of Percy Grainger. It is the work of an autistic practitioner, developed through sustained individual practice and reflection. The project brings together sound, interaction, and accessibility to explore what it might mean to engage with musical materials through continuous change, attention, and play.
Join host Paul Jackson, with GlossGlide
developer Andrew Hugill, as they explore the new site, its design
philosophy, and the ways in which it it is informed by Grainger's
radical approach to music making and music composition. Follow this link for the full March 19 GLOSS update event details on the PGS website.

April 19: Spring Open House
Our 2026 Spring Open House will be Sunday, April 19, from 1:00 to 4:00 PM at the Percy Grainger Home and Studio, 7 Cromwell Place, White Plains, New York, with tour of the historic house at 2:30 PM. This is our annual open house to the local community and will feature an exhibition of Grainger's own artworks.
Artistic, creative, and innovative, Percy Grainger was very much a multifaceted artist. In addition to his work as a musician and composer, Grainger drew and painted from an early age and was a talented visual artist. Paper, Line, Color: Percy Grainger as a Visual Artist seeks to showcase the range of Grainger’s work as an artist while sharing his interests, inspiration, and working process. On display, objects from the PGS collection will include childhood drawings, paintings, sheet music, and prototypes for many of his graphics, alongside samples of beadwork and embroidery that reveal Grainger’s creative range and his appreciation of folk art from cultures around the world.
